New York car accident could result in personal injury lawsuit

Drivers have an obligation to themselves, their passengers and others with whom they may come into contact. This obligation requires them to remain vigilant at all times and drive in a manner that does not deliberately place anyone's safety in jeopardy. Unfortunately, a recent New York car crash -- that could potentially lead to a personal injury lawsuit -- demonstrates the potential harm of such an incident, sending five people to the hospital.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in May. According to reports, a 22-year-old male was driving a vehicle in the vicinity of a mall in New York. Police say that he sideswiped another vehicle, causing him to lose control. As a result, the car is said to have crashed into a tree.

The driver and a 19-year-old passenger in the first vehicle reportedly suffered serious injuries. Additionally, two additional passengers as well as the 43-year-old driver of the second vehicle were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation, and law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Unfortunately, injuries suffered in a car accident can result in the need for significant medical treatment that can quickly lead to overwhelming medical bills. Because the average person in New York is unprepared to cope with such expenses, many struggle financially as a result. Fortunately, victims of another person's negligence have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit. If the case is successfully presented, a victim could receive a financial award that will leave them better able to cope with medical bills and other monetary losses stemming from their injuries.
