Personal injury: 1 killed, 22 injured in New York accident

While there are known hazards associated with driving on New York roadways, the average pedestrian typically feels relatively safe on sidewalks. Unfortunately, a recent car accident will likely make many people question their overall safety. While the driver is in police custody, one person passed away and 22 were taken to the hospital; those injured may consider filing a personal injury lawsuit as a result.

The incident occurred on a day in mid-May. According to reports, a 26-year-old man drove his car onto a sidewalk and continued driving until the vehicle struck a metal obstruction. A witness claims that the driver attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by a man who worked nearby. The same witness claims that the man was driving too fast and did not brake.

An 18-year-old lost her life in the incident. Additionally, 22 people were transported to the hospital due to injuries suffered; four are listed in critical condition. Some reports claim that the driver has two prior arrests for driving while intoxicated, and tests are being run to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.

Unfortunately, many of the injured victims in this New York car accident may have a long road to recovery. While all victims will likely feel the emotional impact for the rest of their lives, many may never be able to fully recover from their injuries. A successfully presented personal injury lawsuit could result in an award of damages that will help victims focus on their recovery rather than how they will cope with the financial fallout of their injuries.
