New York car crash results in personal injury to 4 pedestrians

Sidewalks have likely left many pedestrians in New York feeling safer. Unfortunately, there are many areas that do not have these safety features; in these areas, motorists are still required to act in a way that does not jeopardize the safety of pedestrians. Despite this, a man was charged after police say he caused an accident that resulted in personal injury to four family members.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in late June. According to reports, the four victims -- a mother and her three children, including a 3-month-old baby -- were on the shoulder of a road in an area where there is no sidewalk. Unfortunately, police say the family was struck by a vehicle driven by a 62-year-old man.

Police believe that the driver may drove on the shoulder in an attempt to pass another vehicle when he apparently struck the pedestrians. He now faces multiple charges, including assault and reckless driving. The four victims remain hospitalized, listed in serious condition. The suspected driver was not injured.

Unfortunately, hospital care for even small medical issues can ultimately result in significant hospital bills. When four members of the same family require extensive medical treatment, the resulting medical bills -- in conjunction with loss of wages -- are often more than the average family in New York can handle. As a result, many victims opt to file a personal injury lawsuit. If they can prove that their injuries were caused by another person's negligence, they could receive a financial award to help them cope with the financial ramifications of their injuries.
