Personal injury: 1 killed, 3 injured in New York pedestrian crash

In New York and across the country, many people take Memorial Day to reflect on the freedoms that they have and the costs of preserving those freedoms. Unfortunately, the recent holiday turned to tragedy when four pedestrians were injured in a car accident, one suffering fatal injuries. The three surviving victims may ultimately choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver believed to have caused the accident.

Reports indicate that the four victims, including a young child, were walking up a hill when a car, which some reports indicate was speeding, attempted to stop. The driver reportedly lost control and struck a parked car. Unfortunately, the parked vehicle reportedly pinned the pedestrians.

All four were transported to the hospital, but a 70-year-old woman passed away en route. Two other victims are listed in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to the hospital. A police officer who was conducting a traffic stop near the accident was able to immediately respond. While it is unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed, the incident remains under investigation.

Anyone who has required treatment at a hospital is likely aware of the major expenses that even relatively minor care can create. Unfortunately, those who suffer significant injuries and require a long stay could quickly accumulate medical bills that are unmanageable. As a result, many victims of car accidents in New York choose to file a personal injury lawsuit, and families of deceased victims often file a wrongful death claim. A successfully presented claim could ultimately resulted in a monetary award, ensuring that victims are able to receive necessary medical care without the stress of wondering how they will meet their financial obligations.
