Personal injury: Multiple people injured in deck collapse

There is a great deal of effort that goes into building a sound structure in New York and around the country. The person who creates building plans, the people who actually build it and the inspectors who ensure everything is up to code must all perform their jobs as expected. Failure to do so could result in a serious incident. Unfortunately, a recent deck collapse in another state has injured approximately 25 people, potentially resulting in a personal injury lawsuit.

The incident happened one afternoon on a day in mid-June. Reports indicate that victims were gathered on a second-floor deck as part of a memorial service at a camp. Witnesses claim that they noticed that parts of the deck felt "mushy" just before it collapsed.

First responders described the collapse as a "mass casualty incident." According to one firefighter, approximately 25 people were injured, 15 of whom required treatment at the hospital. Rescue workers used a classification system identifying injured victims by color-coded categories; several victims were placed in the category indicating the highest level of injuries. A social media post made by a representative of the property confirmed the incident.

When people in New York visit a commercial property, they expect that owners and managers have taken proper precautions to ensure their safety. Unfortunately, the failure to do so can have serious consequences, including a personal injury that could have a lengthy recovery time and require extensive medical intervention. Many victims of incidents such as this turn to civil litigation to seek compensation from responsible parties when injuries occur due to negligence.
