Personal injury claim possible after New York taxi collision

For many people in New York, the thought of having lunch outdoors on a sunny afternoon is a pleasing one. Unfortunately, a recent collision has left witnesses expressing fear over their safety while doing so. The incident, which involved a cab jumping a curb and striking a family, injured several people and could potentially lead to a personal injury lawsuit.

The accident happened one afternoon on a day in late July. According to reports, a taxi van struck a second taxi. The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to jump a curb and strike a family eating outdoors at a restaurant, including a toddler.

Although the toddler's injuries were reportedly minor, two passengers -- a 9-year-old girl and 46-year-old woman -- in one of the taxis were both injured. While the severity of their injuries is unclear, they are expected to survive. Each driver argues that he had a green light and the other driver was at fault. While no citations have been issued, police say they will make a determination of fault once surveillance footage has been reviewed.

In the meantime, two people are left recovering from injuries suffered in the collision. While New York police officers will determine who they believe is at fault and likely issue a citation, the victims can also ensure that the responsible party is held accountable by filing a personal injury lawsuit. A successfully presented claim of negligence could result in an award of damages that will allow them to cope with the financial burdens created by their injuries, including medical expenses and lost wages.
