Man arrested following fatal New York car accident

Drivers in New York and across the country often go to great lengths to ensure that their actions do not put their lives or the lives of others at risk. Unfortunately, even the safest drivers are unable to avoid the negligent actions of others. In fact, a man was recently arrested following a car accident that resulted in a fatality.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. on a day in late December. Police claim that a 37-year-old man from out-of-state lost control of his vehicle, causing it to strike a sports utility vehicle. The impact caused the SUV to overturn and catch fire.

Police say that the driver of the first vehicle then continued on, striking a pickup truck and sedan before a final collision with two more vehicles that caused him to come to a stop. Reports indicate that the man attempted to leave the scene on foot with his dog, but he was taken into custody soon after. Though a fatality was reported, the identity of the victim is unclear as is information regarding in which vehicle the victim was traveling. The man believed to have caused the accident was transported to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. He has since been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and manslaughter.

While the end of a year and start of another is typically a time of hope for the future, one family is instead planning a funeral as a result of the New York car accident. Unfortunately, such a loss often comes with significant financial ramifications as a result of lost wages and funeral expenses. To help cope with these costs, many who have lost a loved one as a result of another person's negligence choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the parties determined to be responsible. If their claims are successfully presented, they could receive a monetary award to cope with the associated expenses.
